The Industrial Engineering major encompasses the analysis, development, improvement, and implementation of all integrated processes and their components, including materials, equipment, information, energy, people, money, and time.

The field fuses engineering, business, and communications, drawing upon computer science, math, production management, process control, and psychology. Industrial engineers have the technical training and understanding of people to make improvements in efficiency and quality in any setting.

Systems Engineering and Design

Systems engineers combine engineering design, sciences, business, and communication to solve problems.

The Systems Engineering & Design major is a uniquely interdisciplinary program, with broad flexibility and student-guided focus. Our students and graduates tackle complex engineering and business situations.

We train you in all aspects of systems design, project management, working in multiple disciplines, and getting results in a real world, team environment. Research problems in faculty laboratories, summer internships, and the Senior Engineering Project complement the classroom curriculum with hands-on experience working for industry.

The Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering & Design prepares you for graduate school or all aspects of industry, including product design, healthcare, consulting, environmental stewardship, government, and business.

  • Automotive Engineering provides students with foundational knowledge required for engineering practice and research in automotive systems.
  • Autonomous Systems and Robotics prepares you for understanding the synergistic interactions between algorithms, controls, electronics and mechanical components underlying such systems.
  • Bioengineering prepares students to apply engineering principles to analyze and design biological systems for use in healthcare or biological systems.
  • Business Systems Integration and Consulting prepares students for careers in business analysis, managerial consulting, and in database applications pervasive in enterprise and global organizations with B2B and other highly integrated systems. Students with this training are sought by large consulting firms and globally distributed corporations for their engineering systems knowledge in production, marketing, finance and accounting.
  • Civil Engineering Structures prepares students for their careers in industry addressing design problems related to civil structures.
  • Computer Science is a problem-solving discipline that requires an awareness of what can be accomplished with the infrastructure that is available today.

  • Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation gives students knowledge to design a system, component, or process to meet desired specifications, including design for inspectability/sustainability and life extension.

  • Rehabilitation Engineering helps students understand how to help the human body re-engineer itself.
