Roy Dong is currently serving as an assistant professor in ISE. He obtained a B.S. degree with honors in computer engineering and B.S. in economics from Michigan State University in 2010. In 2017, he earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer sciences from the University of California Berkeley, where the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship partially funded him. Before his current position, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Berkeley Energy & Climate Institute, a visiting lecturer in the industrial engineering and operations research department at UC Berkeley and a research assistant professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Illinois.

Roy's research area integrates control theory, economics, statistics and optimization to examine the closed-loop effects of machine learning. His research focuses on cyber-physical systems, such as the smart grid, modern transportation networks and autonomous vehicles.
