Carolyn Beck
Carolyn Beck is a professor and associate head of undergraduate programs at ISE. She has been a part of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign since 1999. She holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the California Institute of Technology, M.S. from Carnegie Mellon University and B.S. from California Polytech State University.
Before pursuing her doctoral studies, Beck worked as a research and development engineer at Hewlett-Packard in Silicon Valley. She has also held visiting positions at KTH, Stanford University and Lund University, which have enriched her academic background and made her a diverse researcher.
Beck is an IEEE Fellow and president-elect for the IEEE Control Systems Society. She has received various accolades, including the NSF CAREER Award, ONR Young Investigator Award and local teaching honors. Her research focuses on model approximation methods, network inference and aggregation, and distributed optimization and control, with applications to epidemic processes and energy networks.
