Favorite college memory:
My favorite memory is the long night study in Grainger library, especially preparing for the CBTF exams. I have so many courses (TAM and CS) with CBTF exams. It is a totally different experience from a traditional paper exam. When I click the "submit" button, I will know whether my answer is correct. This can be extremely frustrating or encouraging. I feel more nervous, but excited and concentrated.
Favorite ISE class:
IE598 Pricing and Revenue Management by Prof. Xin Chen; IE598 Distributed Decision Systems by Prof. Rasoul Etesami
Favorite UIUC campus coffee shop/restaurant/bar:
Bobo China (now closed)
Advice you would give to your freshman college self if you could:
If it is possible, take more graduate level courses, especially advanced mathematic courses.
Additional comments, memories, links to bios or award recognition, etc. that you'd like to share:
In the first place, I want to thank Professor Ruoyu Sun. I am fortunate to be advised by him in my first research during my sophomore year. He gave me solid instruction how to conduct a serious research. Moreover, this research strengthened my interest in operations research. Secondly, I want to thank Professor Xin Chen. I am also very fortunate to be advised by him in my later research. I worked on two projects under his supervision and audited his special topic course IE598 Pricing and Revenue Management. I explored the cutting edge and wrote a thesis in assortment optimization. Under his help, I determined to pursue a Ph.D. degree in operations research and devote myself to academia in the future. Furthermore, I want to thank Professor Rasoul Etesami sincerely. I took three courses (SE320, IE511 and IE598 Distributed Decision Systems) taught by him. He gave me a lot of insights in control theory and network dynamics, which broadened my scope of research. In addition, I am fortunate to be advised by him in my senior design project. I spent the most fantastic four years in the department of ISE. I worked with the most talented researchers, found my interest in operations research and determined my future goal in academia. I will study in the IEOR Ph.D. program in the University of California at Berkeley starting from fall 2021, but I will always be proud of my every minute in ISE.
