Mun Y. Choi is the Chancellor of the University of Missouri and the 24th president of the University of Missouri System. He earned his bachelor’s degree in general engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1987 and his master’s and doctorate degrees in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Princeton University.

Before joining UM in 2017, Choi spent nine years at the University of Connecticut, where he held positions such as provost and dean of engineering. Over his 28-year career in higher education, he also served as department head of engineering at Drexel University and as an assistant and associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

As president of the UM System, Choi oversees four universities, a healthcare system and a statewide extension program. Under his leadership, the university achieved significant milestones, such as securing record state support, enhancing graduation rates and increasing research expenditures to over $575 million. Additionally, the university has had a $6.5 billion annual economic impact on the state of Missouri; successfully launched MizzouForward, a $1.5 billion, 10-year investment in faculty excellence, student success, and modern infrastructure; and restored the university’s credit rating. Choi also serves as the chair of the Association of Public & Land-Grant Universities’ Commission on Food, Environment & Renewable Resources and as a member of the SEC Executive Committee.

Choi’s family immigrated from South Korea when he was nine, and he grew up in Akron, Ohio, and Chicago. Choi is married to Suzanne Choi, and they have three children and two Bichon Frisés.
