Course Description
This course covers basic properties and control design techniques for linear time-invariant dynamic systems. Basic properties include sampling of signals and discretization techniques for continuous time systems and Z-transform properties. Systems that include both continuous-time and discrete-time components called sampled-data systems are introduced and their basic properties are studied. Designs for controllers are studied using frequency techniques such root locus and Bode plots as well as state space techniques such as pole placement and estimators. Laboratory sessions and exercises are designed so that the students get a better grasp of discrete-time system characteristics and digital controllers implementation issues. Prerequisite: GE 320.
