Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation Research Laboratory
Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation Research Laboratory
Suite 400 Transportation Building
Director: Professor Henrique Reis
Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation (NDT&E) is one of the most rapidly emerging areas of research and development within the manufacturing and construction sectors. To a large extent, this strong interest in NDT&E is in response to needs for better quality assurance in both materials and structures, for monitoring manufacturing and construction processes, and for operation and life extension of industrial plants.
The mission of the Laboratory is to develop novel methods of nondestructive testing and evaluation in collaboration/partnership with industry and to provide an environment to our students that fosters intellectual growth. This program is project oriented to serve the research and development needs of industry; as a consequence, industry participation is very welcome and strongly encouraged.
The number of projects and the quality of the graduate students working in the NDT&E Laboratory is an indication of its recent growth. Starting from humble beginnings, this Laboratory was developed by purchasing used and reconditioned equipment and negotiating vendor gifts and deep discounts. Currently, this Laboratory houses over $650,000 of equipment and is already one of the best equipped laboratories in nondestructive testing and evaluation in the country.
