Six senior design groups win James F. Lincoln Engineering Awards

For over 50 years, students in systems engineering gain real world experience through SE 494: Senior Engineering Project I (formerly known as GE 494). This class enters their projects into the Student Engineering Design Competition by the James F. Lincoln Arc Welding Foundation. Hundreds of entries are received every year, but only seven are presented with an award. Over the 2016 to 2017 school year, six ISE senior design projects won the James F. Lincoln Engineering Awards.
Harry Wildblood is the Coordinator of Project Design Activity and teaches SE 494.
Advisor Scott A. Burns helped seniors Brendan Kelleher, Nicholas Lindsey and Michael Morrow. Their project for Bunn-O-Matic Corporation, Experimental Study for Propane Refrigerant with Design Considerations, won silver.
Professor James V. Carnhan advised seniors Carleasia Kengott, Jason Payne, Patrick Moynihan, and Martin Giannetti Latuf. They were awarded bronze for their Experimental Study of Espresso Foam Production and Quality Enhancement for the Bunn-O-Matic Corporation.
Professor Xin Chen was an advisor for seniors Jigar Patel, Wenwei Yu, and James Gilbert. Their project Logistics Optimization for Lumber Purchase and Transport for the Morton Buildings, Inc. won bronze.
Advisor Dan Thompson helped seniors Perla Morales, Timothy Szaflarski, Tianqui Wu, and Jing Yu on their project for the Bunn-O-Matic Corporation. The project, titled Coffee Maker Redesign for Lime Tolerance and Reduced Lime Buildup, won bronze.
Scott A. Burns advised seniors James Africh, Jazmyn Jimenez, Michael Kim, and Yining Wang. Their project for the Bunn-O-Matic Corporation was titled Energy Efficiency Design Improvements for Bunn Coffee Makers. Their hard work was awarded bronze.
Professor Henrique Reis advised seniors Sawyer Hoffman, Erik Salinas, Lynsey Howse, and Nachiketa Pai. Their silver award-winning project was titled Hot Forging Tool Life Analysis and Improvement. It was created for MacLean-Fogg Component Systems Metform Group.
