Teaching Associate Professor, Industrial and Enterprise Systems

Chrysafis Vogiatzis is a teaching associate professor in ISE. He holds a M.Sc. and Ph.D. in industrial and systems engineering from the University of Florida and a Dipl. Eng. degree in electrical and computer engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in Greece. His academic interests are network analysis and optimization and their wide-ranging applications in various systems, such as socio-technical, transportation and infrastructure, and biological systems.

At the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Vogiatzis teaches IE 300: Analysis of Data, IE 371: Simulation with Applications for the undergraduate program and IE 532: Analysis of Network Data for the graduate program. The Army Research Lab and the National Science Foundation have granted Vogiatzis funding for his scholarly activities as a PI and a co-PI. His most recent funding is for investigating illicit drug supply chain networks.

Vogiatzis is a member of INFORMS, IISE and ASEE and is currently co-chair of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee of INFORMS. He was recognized for his teaching as the ASEE IL/IN Teacher of the Year in 2023 and for his service as a University of Illinois MLK Jr. Champion in 2024. Lastly, his case study, "Racial bias in automated traffic law enforcement and the price of unjustness,” was recognized as a runner-up in the 2023 INFORMS Case Competition.
