Susan Shaw
Susan was born in Chicago and lived in the suburbs until she came to UIUC. She currently resides in Michigan with her husband Ben, 8-year-old daughter Brinley, and 6-year-old son Remington. They enjoy spending time outdoors. Pre-pandemic they did a lot of traveling to new places in and outside the US and hope to hit all 50 states as well many more countries as they start traveling again. She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist working as an ADAS Customer Experience Research Lead with Ford in Michigan where she works on the Customer Experience team to develop and implement user friendly ADAS systems for Rod and Lincoln vehicles. Her concentrations are on increasing the usability of Advanced Driving and Safety (ADAS) features such as Lane Keeping, Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Assist as well as reducing Driver Distraction and keeping Drivers’ eyes on the road. Her past includes careers as a Test Engineering then Manufacturing Engineer at Stryker, Ergonomics Consultant at Humantech, and HMI Engineer at Hyundai. Susan graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in General Engineering with a focus in Biomedical Engineering prior to completing her master’s in industrial and Operations Engineering with a focus on Ergonomics at the University of Michigan. Don’t worry, she’ll always cheer the Illini over the Wolverines.
