It is a highly competitive award that draws contention from many prestigious schools, including Standford, Berkeley, and Princeton.
Many of the past winners and runner-ups of the competition have gone on to become professors, which is a career path Chen is pursuing. Her advisors are Professors Liming Feng and Jiming Peng.
