Eyes on Illini
In Brother Mine-Lessons Learned by Mike Odell (BSGE '66) he explores the life he shared with his older brother Al, who died from cancer at 55. These memories result in a delightful book of reminiscing about growing up in simpler times and enjoying a brotherly relationship. Their personalities, their work, and their lives were different, but childhood lessons and interests beginning in childhood held them together. From the beginning they embraced technology, especially anything to do with wheels. From wagons, to bicycles, to cars - great cars - they found a common bond for life.
Mike grew up in Elgin, Illinois, graduated from the U of I with a BS and MBA. In 2002 Mike retired from Healthcare IT as a VP/CIO. Over the years he wrote for a number of professional publications. He has also written to Road Racers magazine and published articles in Victory Lane, the vintage and historic racing news magazine. Mike's wife Cindy, provided illustrations for the book, which also includes many old family photos.
