Secondary Field Option

Here's a form for reporting trouble or issues with your Secondary Field Options or Track Options.

One unique aspect of the Systems Engineering and Design program is that the students focus their studies through the Secondary Field Option, shaping the Systems Engineering and Design curriculum to their interests and career goals. Secondary Field Options are often built around a student’s long-term goals of integrating a basic engineering education with another specialized activity.

Students select a Secondary Field Option by the start of their junior year.

There are two basic types of Secondary Field Options: pre-approved or customized.

Pre-Approved Secondary Field Options

Customized Secondary Field Options

Students may create Customized Secondary Field Options to develop expertise and pursue career goals in areas not provided by Pre-approved Options. To do this, a suitable title and all the courses must be petitioned for acceptance to the Department.

Customized Secondary Field Options may be technically or nontechnically oriented.
