Frequently Asked Questions
For those of you who are being automatically transferred to the NEW GE/IE curriculum or are planning to switch to the NEW GE/IE curriculum and currently registered under the OLD GE/IE curriculum for Fall 2010(courses such as Phys 214, Math 225, TAM 210, ECE 204/205, etc.), you may stay with your current schedule and refer to http://ise.illinois.edu/ugrad/courses/crsconversion.pdf for course conversion. Fall 2010 semester will be considered your ‘transition’ semester and you will need to follow the NEW GE/IE curriculum requirements in future semesters.
When will I need to make a final decision on whether to switch to the new curriculum?
There is no deadline; however, the sooner you make your decision, the less likely of taking unnecessary courses.
Can I combine the old and the new curriculum?
No. You must choose the old curriculum or the new curriculum.
I'm graduating in December 2010, January 2011, or August 2011. Why can't I switch to the new curriculum?
The new curriculum doesn't officially start until Fall 2011. You may not have a catalog year that starts after your graduation date.
Is GE 400 still required for the General Engineering curriculum?
GE 400 is a required course in the old GE curriculum, but will no longer satisfy the Advanced Composition requirement. GE 400 is not required in the new GE curriculum, but is a required course for certain SFOs.
If GE 400 is no longer an Advanced Composition course, does that mean I need to find a replacement?
No. GE 494 will satisfy the Advanced Composition Requirement.
The courses I need to complete my degree in the old curriculum are no longer offered. What do I do?
There is a course conversion chart available that shows what courses will automatically be counted for other courses in the new or old curriculum.

No. GE 100 will be waived.
