Ali E. Abbas received an M.S. in electrical engineering (1998), M.S. in engineering economic systems & operations research (2001), PhD in management science and engineering (2004), and PhD minor in electrical engineering all from the school of engineering at Stanford University. His research interests include decision making under uncertainty, decision making with incomplete information and preferences, dynamic programming, information theory and applications of operations research tools in bioinformatics. He joined UIUC in 2004, and previously worked as a Lecturer in the Department of Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University and in Schlumberger Oilfield Services, where he held several positions in Wireline logging, operations management, and international training. He has also worked on several consulting projects for mergers and acquisitions in California, and co-taught several executive seminars on decision analysis at Strategic Decisions Group.
